Elan to close New York, Tokyo offices

SAN FRANCISCO: Elan will close its New York and Tokyo offices in the first quarter of 2009, the biotechnology company said December 12. A decision has not been made whether the five corporate communications employees in New York will be relocated to San Francisco, said Mary Stutts, SVP and head of corporate relations for Elan, who added that she was hired to build out the communications function. Stutts joined Elan on November 24 in a newly created position. The company said in a news release that it would eliminate some positions and refine its commercial activities for Tysabri, its drug which is used to treat Crohn’s disease and multiple sclerosis.
