SAN FRANCISCO: The International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) is joining with online educator Cardean University to offer members a range of business-management courses.
Members can sign up for the online courses through the IABC website.
Each course takes six to 10 hours to complete, and costs $380.
The association is offering complimentary registration for an upcoming teleseminar on working with reporters. The introductory offer is designed to encourage members to sign up for the new courses.
"We have recognized through surveys and through informal feedback that our members need business-management skills," explained Chris Grossgart, an IABC SVP.
The association decided to work with Cardean rather than try to run the courses itself. "It's going to provide significant benefits to our members with no cost to the association," Grossgart explained.
Cardean works as an online educational broker, offering courses developed by faculty at such prestigious schools as Stanford, Columbia, the University of Chicago, and the London School of Economics.
The courses do not carry college credit. However, they do provide continuing-education units, which some employers require staffers to earn over time, Grossgart explained.
