LOS ANGELES: Two LA firms have welcomed new GMs.

Magnet Communications has hired entertainment and consumer publicity veteran Lou Casale. In addition to handling daily operations, he will head the entertainment practice.

Casale was previously director of the corporate practice at Bragman Nyman Cafarelli, which is owned by IPG.

At Porter Novelli, Bill Kolberg has been promoted to the position of general manager, relieving interim GM Steve Jursa of his duties. Jursa is head of the global convergence practice, and is based in Northern California.

In his role as interim GM, he was also overseeing operations in Southern California during the search.

Kolberg joined Porter Novelli in 1994 to oversee its McDonald's Operators' Association of Southern California account, which represents more than 600 franchises of the fast-food chain.

Kolberg said that under his leadership, the LA office will work to promote its youth marketing and multicultural marketing capabilities.

The office is also pursuing more internal communications work, a new area of practice that has grown out of the agency's work with Hewlett-Packard.
