NEW YORK: Ogilvy PR Worldwide has hired veteran crisis management executive Albert Tortorella as MD of its global corporate practice. Tortorella replaces London-based Rob Shimmin, who has headed the unit since July 2000. Shimmin will take on the role of MD for the EMEA region.
Tortorella joins Ogilvy after nearly 25 years at Burson-Marsteller, where he had several titles, including vice chairman of the corporate executive office. He advised companies through several corporate crises, including the 1982 Tylenol scare.
Tortorella said that although he was not unhappy at Burson, he felt it was time for a change after over two decades. He said WPP afforded him the opportunity to move to another agency within the holding company.
"It's a unique opportunity to come here to make an impact in a new environment," he said.
