NEW YORK and CHICAGO: Golin/Harris International has replaced its CFO with a veteran financial executive from within the Interpublic Group, Golin's parent company.
James Wagner, who has worked within the ranks of IPG for 16 years in various functions, is taking over for Stephen Russell, who had been Golin's CFO since 1997. CEO Richard Jernstedt described Russell's departure as a "mutual decision," and that he was unaware of Russell's future plans.
Wagner has been working at IPG's Advanced Marketing Services (AMS) since October. AMS is the IPG entity that contains all of the company's PR holdings, including Golin and Weber Shandwick.
Wagner said new IPG CEO David Bell had approached him personally about the job.
"It's a tough time for the PR business," Wagner said, "and there is weakness throughout the industry. Obviously, we remain interested in maintaining margins and such."
Wagner will be based in New York City, not at Golin's Chicago headquarters.
