FLORHAM PARK, NJ: Novartis Oncology has appointed former employee Jeff Cook to the newly created position of director of PR for the US. Prior to his two-and-a-half-year stint at Pfizer, where he most recently served as assistant director of corporate media relations, Cook worked for Novartis in its transplant business unit.
His main focus at Pfizer was on its blockbuster drug for erectile dysfunction, Viagra.
At Novartis, Cook will work predominantly on Gleevec, the company's chronic myeloid leukemia drug, in addition to Femara, a drug for breast-cancer patients, and Zometa, a drug to treat bone metastasis.
"As we started to see increased opportunities here, we knew we needed to bring a designated person in to bolster our efforts," explained Gloria Stone, director of Global PR for Novartis Oncology.
