SEATTLE: Washington Mutual has issued an RFQ to PR firms for an undisclosed project.
Washington Mutual runs its PR internally, said EVP of corporate relations Bill Ehrlich, but the bank often works with agencies on individual projects.
This RFQ is for such a project, although "we've envisioned the duration to be a bit more long-term," said Ehrlich.
The review is in the very early stages, which Ehrlich said he hopes to conclude in four to six weeks. While he would not divulge the nature of the work, the size of the account, or which agencies were involved in the review, he did say six to eight agencies were being considered.
"We use agencies for special events, market entries, and from time to time for mergers and acquisitions," he added.
Washington Mutual last had an AOR back in the early 1990s, when it was predominantly in the Pacific Northwest, and didn't have the internal resources to handle PR on its own. At the time, Washington Mutual worked with The Rockey Company, an agency acquired by Hill & Knowlton in 2000.
