TORRANCE, CA: Toyota Motor Sales USA has reorganized its PR operations to better integrate its PR and marketing efforts, and also to provide more PR support for its Scion brand. Scion is a new Toyota brand aimed at young car buyers.
"Scion is a very important new initiative we're launching that is going to rely very heavily on PR," said Mike Michels, Toyota's national manager of external communications.
Under the reorganization, John Hanson, formerly national product news manager for the Toyota division, has become national product communications manager for the Scion and Lexus brands, in addition to the Toyota division.
Nancy Hubbell, formerly national manager of Lexus PR, is taking on the new position of national strategic communications manager. She'll be responsible for integrating the efforts of Toyota's marketing and PR operations.
"The distinctions between marketing and PR are less sharply defined than they once were," Michels explained. "We want to make sure that PR connections are locked in from the very beginning of the marketing process."
