NEW YORK and SAN FRANCISCO: Based on lessons they learned through their involvement in the September 11 response, two crisis experts have launched Turning Point Solutions.
Jeanine Moss, senior communications counsel for the September 11th Fund, has joined forces with Nicole DeMeo, former managing director for an internet consultancy. The new company offers clients a suite of preparedness products and services designed to assist with effectively avoiding or navigating crisis situations.
Citing the Red Cross' role in the aftermath of the terrorist attacks, Moss said, "Any brand can be dragged into a crisis situation at any time, so you must be aware of your ability to respond to that kind of attention.
All companies have hidden communications power. It's a matter of figuring out where that is."
Turning Point's Crisis Vulnerability Index assesses a company's strengths and weaknesses, and predicts where future problems may arise.
The Crisis Severity Index measures the impact of a crisis on various populations, and helps determine the appropriate level of response. The company also offers leadership workshops and media training.
"You are not always able to communicate in the same media you are being attacked in," asserted Moss, "so you have to find other ways to reach your audience."
Moss reported "very strong receptivity" to Turning Point's offerings thus far. She explained, "We are being hired by very senior executives who get a sense of control and responsibility from proving to their organizations that they are doing everything they can to best handle crises."
