ENGLEWOOD, CO: Thomas Southwick has been appointed VP of corporate communications for Starz Encore Group.
Southwick will replace Paul Jacobson, who left the company in January to become deputy communications director for Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist (R-TN).
Southwick, a veteran journalist, founded the weekly magazine CableWorld in 1988, where he served as both a columnist and the publisher.
In 1994, CableWorld was acquired by Cowles Business Media, where Southwick was named vice president of new-business development. In that role, Southwick worked on acquisitions and start-ups, and oversaw the launch of the monthly trade magazine Asia Cable & Satellite World, which is based in Hong Kong.
Southwick is also the author of Distant Signals: How Cable TV Changed the World of Telecommunications, a history of the first 50 years of the cable industry published in 2001.
"Tom's extensive experience in both trade and consumer press will add depth and leadership to our already strong corporate communications team," said Jillaina Wachendorf, SVP of marketing for Starz Encore.
