Promotions group formed to get EMI artists on the radio

LOS ANGELES: EMI Recorded Music North America has started a centralized radio-promotion unit aimed at generating airplay for niche EMI artists across different radio formats.

LOS ANGELES: EMI Recorded Music North America has started a centralized radio-promotion unit aimed at generating airplay for niche EMI artists across different radio formats.

Though considered primarily a sales and marketing division, the unit includes outreach to playlist decision-makers.

The launch comes on the heels of the announcement from radio giant Clear Channel that it would work directly with record labels, and not independent promoters. Cox Radio made a similar decision last fall.

The new division is called EMI Music Collective, and is headed by Kevin Carroll, who was most recently VP of promotion at EMI's jazz label Angel/Blue Note/Manhattan. The division has a staff of eight, and is charged with supporting artists on the Blue Note, Astralwerks, and S-Curve labels.
