SAN FRANCISCO: Jeff Raleigh and Mike Brown are putting the "senior" back in "senior consultants" with a new agency.
"We've earned all these gray hairs," joked Raleigh, cofounder of Brown & Raleigh, the consultancy he just opened with Brown. Raleigh worked for Hill & Knowlton for 19 years, managing the New York and San Francisco offices, and leading the client services and global account practices. Prior to that, he worked as a campaign consultant and political aide.
Brown has led PR for the University of San Francisco, Southern Pacific Lines, and Consolidated Freightways. Before that, he wrote for the San Francisco Chronicle.
The new firm will help businesses with crisis management, corporate positioning, and strategic planning.
"We're two senior guys when it comes to experience, and we bring separate and complementary skills to the table," said Brown. "We believe that an agency with only senior staff will find its niche in these times. With most agencies, when the projects begin, the clients don't see the senior people all that often.
"Our vision is to keep it very small," Brown added. "When we pitch the business, it will be us. And when we service the clients, we will be doing the work."
The firm will work with a limited number of clients to ensure they get Brown and Raleigh's full attention, promised Raleigh.
"We want to spend time with mature companies," Raleigh explained. "They already have some infrastructure in the communications area, they understand that communications and reputation are important to the success of their company, and they appreciate experience."
