NEW YORK: PRSA New York has launched a free service designed to match PR pros with nonprofit organizations.

Chapter members now have access to www.boardnetusa.org, a website where they can input information about their skills and interests to find one of the many boards that needs communications help.

"There's a need in nonprofits for PR pros," said Emmanuel Tchividjian, New York PRSA chapter president. "There are financial and legal advisers, but not many from PR."

Rhoda Barr, director of client services of the Volunteer Consulting Group, which sponsors the website, said, "Nonprofits often have to deal with contentious issues. Having someone on the board who understands the dynamics of communications is vitally important. It's an area of knowledge that's missing from many boards."
