PALO ALTO, CA: Kay Hart, VP of corporate communications and media relations at Hewlett-Packard, is leaving the company at the end of May.
Tim Marklein, director of corporate media relations, confirmed Hart's impending departure. But he did not elaborate on why she is leaving or whether HP will replace her.
Hart is leaving just seven months after HP's major PR agency consolidation. A few months after its merger with Compaq, HP launched a review in order to consolidate the more than 50 firms representing the new HP down to three. In the end, HP selected Hill & Knowlton, Porter Novelli, and Burson-Marsteller.
In December, HP altered its communications hierarchy. Mike Winkler, former EVP
of worldwide operations, was named HP's first CMO. Allison Johnson, SVP of global brand and communications, now reports to Winkler instead of CEO Carly Fiorina as a result. Hart reports to Johnson.
Hart joined HP during its controversial merger with Compaq, where she was VP of corporate communications.
