Torrance, CA: Nissan North America has hired Simon Sproule away from Jaguar to become its new VP of corporate communications.

He replaces Debra Sanchez Fair, who left Nissan in March. He'll begin his new job June 9.

Sproule has served as VP of communications and corporate affairs for Ford-owned brands Jaguar, Aston Martin, and Land Rover North America since 2001. He recently launched an effort encouraging Jaguar and Land Rover dealers to use more PR in their marketing mix.

Sproule has been in auto PR for 12 years, in various positions with Jaguar and Ford. At Nissan, he'll report to Jim Morton, SVP of administration and finance.

Nissan has a history of hiring relatively young PR people to head its North American communications. Prior to Fair, it hired Jason Vines away from Chrysler. He went on to head up Ford's PR, and now runs the Detroit office of Stratacomm.

Nissan has been in a rebuilding mode globally, reporting a $4.24 billion profit worldwide for the year ending March 31. It reported losses in seven of the eight years before Renault took a controlling interest.
