TOY BOX: Atari fans can have a game old time

The Atari 10-in-1 TV Games system from Jakks Pacific combines ten Atari video games in a single controller. It looks practically identical to the joystick from the classic Atari 2600 console, and all games are played with the original graphics and sounds - both shockingly worse than I recalled.

The Atari 10-in-1 TV Games system from Jakks Pacific combines ten Atari video games in a single controller. It looks practically identical to the joystick from the classic Atari 2600 console, and all games are played with the original graphics and sounds - both shockingly worse than I recalled.

The games included are Adventure, Asteroids, Breakout, Centipede, Circus Atari, Gravitar, Missile Command, Pong, Real Sports Volleyball, and Yar's Revenge. Sorry, no Pac Man. It connects to the TV through two RCA outputs, which are the only external components. With all the games built directly into the controller, it's very portable and easy to use. Unfortunately, the stone-age appearance of the games makes it almost laughable to today's kids, who are used to the sights and sounds of Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft. But it's still well worth $25 for kids of the '80s who need an occasional video-game fix. It's also a great conversation piece for those who'll appreciate its vintage look and feel. The verdict: A blast from the past for adults, but it's pointless trying to sell that to your kids. Any questions? Write us at toybox@prweek.com.
