HOFFMAN ESTATES, IL: Filling the vacancy left by industry veteran Ron Culp, Sears, Roebuck & Co. has named Robert O'Leary SVP of PR, communications, and government affairs.

O'Leary, who will assume his new position on July 1, is currently SVP of global communications at the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company (of which Sears is a customer).

"I'm honored to be asked to be part of the Sears team," he said. "It has a great brand and a proud heritage that is not unlike what I found at Goodyear. It is a consistent theme across my career." O'Leary has also held senior positions at Mobil Corporation and IBM.

Assuming O'Leary's vacated position at Goodyear will be Charles Sinclair, VP of communications and PR for the company's North American Tire division.

"It's a tribute to the succession-planning process that we can manage the transition so smoothly," O'Leary said.

When Culp left in February after 10 years at the PR helm of the retailer, Bob Carr stepped

in as the interim VP of PR. He is expected to continue in a leadership role.
