Tyco lures GE marketing head as it begins to rebuild in-house PR

BERMUDA: More than a year after its board of directors handed the reins of its day-to-day PR operation to crisis firm Robinson Lerer Montgomery (RLM), Tyco appears to have begun reestablishing its own in-house corporate PR operation.

Tyco, which produces everything from security alarms to medical devices, has named

former General Electric communications executive Charles Young as its new SVP of corporate communications.

Young was most recently general manager of global marketing at GE Medical Systems, the healthcare technology division of General Electric.

Young represents the second major appointment to Tyco's communications team in recent weeks. The company named Ed Arditte, former BancBoston executive, SVP of IR last month.

During his 15 years at GE, Young held posts that include GM of corporate communications for GE Medical, and director of communications and public affairs for GE global research.

It is uncertain how much longer RLM will continue to occupy Tyco's corporate communications offices once Young assumes his new role later this month.

The firm was retained shortly after the company's now disgraced CEO Dennis Kozlowski left under a cloud of indictment in mid-2002.

Since then, Tyco has seen the arrival of a new management team that includes a new CEO, Edward Breen, to whom Young will report, and a new CFO, David Fitzpatrick.
