NEW YORK: GCI Group has promoted Ellen Golden to EVP and director of its North American consumer marketing practice. Joel Babbit has been named to a new position, North American chief creative officer.
Golden joined the firm in 1999 when she started a consumer-health business within the healthcare practice. In 2000, she became head of the agency's New York consumer practice.
"Ellen has done a terrific job building our consumer practice in New York," said Bob Feldman, president and CEO of GCI. "Her entrepreneurship, combined with her understanding of brand marketing, has fueled some real growth."
Babbit came to GCI after the acquisition by GCI's parent company of 360 Thinc, where he was president. He now splits his time between Grey Global Atlanta, where he is president and chief creative officer, and GCI.
His experience had been in advertising and marketing. "His background is terribly creative and, frankly, terribly valuable to our firm," Feldman explained.
Feldman created the chief creative officer job for Babbit to put that background to work for the agency in a formalized way.
