NEW YORK: Charlie Perkins has left his post as EVP and head of Weber Shandwick's corporate-reputation practice to become director of PR for the Americas at accounting giant Ernst & Young. He will lead a staff of eight and take responsibility for all internal and external PR. The search was conducted by Korn/Ferry International.

"I think every PR person wants to be with a company where PR is a part of the everyday operations," Perkins said. "Obviously, the job is two-pronged, to deal with the needs of the company and the misconceptions that the entire accounting profession is dealing with. That is what made this position enticing to me."

Prior to joining Weber Shandwick, Perkins chaired Edelman's reputation-management practice, served as press secretary and advisor in numerous political campaigns, and worked as VP and director of corporate communications at Prudential Securities.

"I've specialized in helping companies that are facing the same kinds of challenges," he said. "At Prudential Securities, where survival was at stake, I was proud to help the reputation of that company."

Perkins replaces Lawrence Parnell, who recently took the top communications position at Barrick Gold Corporation.
