KENILWORTH, NJ: More than five months since Pfizer's acquisition of Pharmacia left him undecided about his next career move, Jeff Winton, former VP of global PR for Pharmacia, has decided to put his product PR skills to use at Schering-Plough. The decision makes him the third top-level communications pro from Pharmacia to join Schering under CEO Fred Hassan, who was formerly CEO of Pharmacia.

Winton, the new group VP of global communications, has been entrusted with starting an integrated product communications group at the struggling company - a department, according to Winton, "not unlike what we built at Pharmacia."

The move to form a dedicated product PR function is reminiscent of actions taken by Hassan when he was at the helm of then-troubled Pharmacia. It was Hassan who recruited Winton to build a product group there as well.

For product-related efforts, Winton will report to another ex-Pharmacia staffer, Carrie Cox, EVP and president, global pharmaceuticals. Ellen Geisel, Winton's former boss at Pharmacia, also joined Schering a few months ago to head the company's allergy franchise.

Separately, Winton will handle Schering's internal and external worldwide corporate communications. That is a new role at Schering. Because of his corporate responsibilities, Winton will also report to Joseph Connors, EVP and general counsel.
