LONDON: Edelman has named David Brain president and CEO of the agency's European operations. Brain was co-CEO of rival Weber Shandwick's UK and Ireland operations, sharing that title with Colin Byrne.
Edelman has re-created the role of European CEO for Brain. The role was eliminated when London-based Alison Canning was made Edelman's international president. Canning left the firm two months ago, and her role is not being directly replaced. Brain is expected to fulfill many of her duties.
Europe is Edelman's second largest geographical region, with 350 employees in 12 locations serving 10 markets.
Brain said he is well prepared for the job. "Weber Shandwick in the UK and Ireland had seven offices, so I know how to manage disparate offices. But Europe [and its markets are] more different than similar, so the scale and dimension is different," he said.
Working from Edelman's London offices, Brain will report directly to CEO Richard Edelman.
Edelman said of Brain, "He's charismatic and driven, and he knows marketing. He's an excellent people manager. I want him to build a great trans-Atlantic bridge. I want him to take clients in one market and spread them to others. I want him to align client teams across the region."
Byrne, who reports to WS global CEO Harris Diamond, has tapped consumer practice head Sally Ward to be his deputy.
