LOS ANGELES: The Anaheim Storm, a National Lacrosse League team new to Southern California, is working on a media outreach campaign to build awareness of both the sport and its presence in the area.
The team, only the second professional lacrosse team in California, moved to Arrowhead Pond sports arena in Anaheim earlier this month, and began an in-house effort to reach out to local media. Because the sport is not well-established on the West Coast, the biggest challenge is luring press interest to learn about the game.
"The main thing is educating the media," said Arrowhead PR manager Julie Hoekwater, whose company oversees marketing for the team.
Hoekwater said the PR campaign would include a community day for area residents to see the field and meet players, along with a media day when journalists can "come and try to be a lacrosse player."
