McLEAN, VA: Michael Robinson has been named director of investment business communications at government-chartered mortgage company Freddie Mac. Robinson will serve the company's funding and investments group, and will report to PR director Sharon McHale. New York-based executive recruiter Heyman Associates led the search.
Prior to taking the position, Robinson worked briefly at Hill & Knowlton's Washington, DC office as deputy director of the corporate practice. Before arriving there, he worked for a year as a spokesperson for the SEC.
While at the SEC, Robinson provided PR counsel to former chairman Harvey Pitt, and acted as a media liaison through a spate of corporate scandals, including Enron, WorldCom, Tyco, and ImClone.
"All of my other positions prepared me by giving an understanding of the financial markets, and how to develop and implement a strategic program," he said.
Robinson assumes his new role at a time when Freddie Mac is experiencing troubles of its own. The company is trying to emerge from an accounting scandal that led to the exit of two chief executives.
