LOS ANGELES: Los Angeles Mayor James Hahn has hired a Fleishman-Hillard managing supervisor to head his press office. Shannon Murphy takes the title of communications director for Hahn, which includes the duty of acting as his spokesperson.
Murphy has worked with the mayor in the past on pro bono projects while at Fleishman, including the mayor's One Book, One City reading initiative, and work for the Getty House Foundation. Murphy also helped Hahn with an overseas trade and tourism campaign in Asia last year.
Prior to joining the mayor's office, Murphy worked on several city-government-related accounts at Fleishman, including the Los Angeles Visitors and Convention Bureau, the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power, and Los Angeles World Airports.
The hiring highlights the close relationship Fleishman continues to have with Hahn's administration. Earlier this summer, Hahn's deputy mayor for communications and policy Matt Middlebrook left his job to head Fleishman's public affairs practice in San Francisco.
