LOS ANGELES: Guidant, a manufacturer of cardiovascular medical devices, has enlisted FischerHealth's medical devices and diagnostics practice to handle all its corporate and product PR.
Aimee Corso, FischerHealth SVP and national medical devices and diagnostics practice head, said the firm would focus on educating doctors, patients, and regulatory bodies about heart failure and cardiovascular disease. "Our DTC [outreach] is about marketing therapies, not just products," she explained.
Corso added that her firm's appointment was not related to Guidant's woes earlier this year surrounding the highly publicized shutdown of its Endovascular Technologies subsidiary.
Last June, the division admitted to covering up thousands of incidents of device malfunction with its Ancure Endograft System, and agreed to pay $92 million to settle the charges. Reportedly, the payout was the largest in history for failing to disclose a faulty medical product.
