ROLLING MEADOWS, IL: Thermos LLC has hired Chicago-based Wheatley & Timmons as its PR agency of record as it gears up for its 100th anniversary in 2004.
Wheatley's main task will be consumer and trade PR.
Thermos also plans to sponsor an exhibit on the history of lunch at the Smithsonian in Washington, DC. That project is slated to begin in March - the month that will mark the anniversary of the company's founding.
Thermos did not issue a formal RFP. It spoke to several agencies, and picked Wheatley over Minneapolis-based Carmichael Lynch Spong because it was impressed by Wheatley's experience in consumer products, said Rick Dias, director of marketing for the hardlines division at Thermos. Dias would not comment on how much Thermos will spend on PR.
PR efforts will stress the company's history, food-safety issues, and the contemporary nature of new Thermos products. The agency expects that at least six people will work on the account.
