BELLEVUE, WA: Travel website Expedia.com is in the midst of a search for a PR agency, and is hoping to make a selection by the end of the year.
PR director Andrea Riggs confirmed the company was conducting a search, which began in early November. Expedia is handling the search internally. The search will not involve a procurement officer, she added.
For the past seven years, Expedia has worked with Edelman, which is participating in the review. Riggs declined to disclose which other agencies were being considered, or the size of the PR budget.
The online travel industry has become more competitive as more travelers rely on such sites to book reservations and travel plans. The rise of discount sites such as Priceline and Hotwire has increased competition, while rival site Orbitz is preparing an IPO.
