LOS ANGELES: The Screen Actors Guild (SAG), one of two unions representing actors, has hired Napster?s former PR chief to head its own communications efforts. The post had been vacant for more than two years.
Seth Oster, most recently VP of corporate communications and public affairs for Napster, will fill the newly created post of deputy national executive director for communications at SAG, beginning next week. He will report directly to the guild?s head, SAG national executive director and CEO A. Robert Pisano.
Along with acting as the primary spokesperson for SAG, Oster will be responsible for overseeing all of its internal and external communications. The union is currently preparing for contract negotiations with the major film studios this spring, which is expected to be a much-watched event in Hollywood.
?This is a pivotal time for SAG, particularly as we work toward a TV/theatrical contract and crafting a new consolidation plan,? said Pisano. ?We are very pleased that Seth will be leading our communications efforts, and look forward to having his counsel and strategic skills as we meet these challenges.?
Illyanne Kichaven, who began at SAG in 2001 as a communications consultant, will remain as associate director of communications.
In addition to helping Napster relaunch as a legitimate online music site, Oster has been head of corporate communications and public affairs for Universal Music Group and Sony Music Entertainment?s joint online music business. He also served four years as a top communications aide to US Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-CA).
Executive recruitment firm Korn/Ferry International handled the search.
