DETROIT: Local PR veteran John Casey has been chosen to run Stratacomm's Detroit office following the departure of principal Jason Vines, who left at the start of the year to become head of PR for the Chrysler division of DaimlerChrysler.

Casey, who joined Stratacomm last October, retains the titles of VP and MD. He had been running the office with Vines, who was hired in 2002 - along with two other auto PR pros - to boost Stratacomm's image in Detroit. All three have now left.

The Detroit office recorded revenues of $1.8 million last year, a doubling of business over the past 18 months, said Ron DeFore, a principal at the DC-based agency. Overall, the firm saw revenues increase 52% last year to $7.5 million, he added.

Casey said he's been expanding the staff at the Detroit office. With four recent hires, the number of employees is now 10.

Known for its public affairs work in the transportation field, the agency also handles auto product-related assignments and b-to-b work out of Detroit, DeFore said. "We are definitely on the upswing there," he said.
