BLOOMINGTON, IL: State Farm Insurance Companies, best known as a provider of home and auto insurance, has hired Golin/Harris International to support its lesser-known life-insurance business.

According to Rock Jenkins, State Farm's assistant VP of public affairs, Golin was chosen in part because of its "cultural fit" with State Farm. "We believe in long-term partnerships, and were looking for an agency that had both the capabilities and culture to be successful with us in the long haul," Jenkins stated in a release. The firm is charged with improving State Farm's position in the marketplace and helping enhance its customer relationships. State Farm plans to maintain its now 15-year-old relationship with Burson-Marsteller, which handles corporate PR and product support. "We think the multiple-agency model is the way to go," said Jenkins. PR management consultant Jerry Swerling of Swerling Associates managed the search for State Farm.
