AUSTIN, TX: GCI Read-Poland has hired former HP staffer Janet Dean as an SVP in its commercial technology practice. Dean was formerly a senior manager for HP. She also worked at Rockwell International.

CHICAGO: Walter Petersen, long-time ad-industry corporate communications specialist, is joining The Partnership division of The Interpublic Group as EVP and CCO. His primary responsibilities will include overseeing all internal and external communications to enhance the reputations of Lowe and Partners Worldwide and Draft.

IRVINE, CA: Benjamin/Weber Shandwick has promoted Lisa Falcetti and Traci Renner to VPs. Falcetti will continue to focus on managing accounts, as well as spearheading new business efforts. Renner will continue her work on the Toshiba digital products division account.

NEW YORK: Gotham Public Relations, a consumer and business marketing PR agency, has been chosen as AOR for Allied Domecq's Courvoisier brand.

MIAMI: Senior communications counselors and industry veterans Julio Rebull Jr. and Rosanna Fiske are partnering as principals in Rise Strategies, a new agency which will provide PR, public affairs, and ad services to a variety of industries and clients. Rebull most recently served as MD and Florida market leader for Burson-Marsteller, and Fiske was previously VP of Ketchum, Miami.

NEW YORK: KMR Communications, a PR firm with clients in the beauty, health, and fitness sectors, has recently added Rene Furterer hair care and Bosley, the world's largest hair-restoration company, to its roster.

LOS ANGELES: Digital media software company Roxio announced it will move from Silicon Valley to the LA offices of Napster, the online music service Roxio owns. While Dana Harris will remain director of PR for Napster, Roxio's worldwide corporate communications director Lauren Karp will leave the company when it moves south, and product marketing manager Chris Taylor will oversee Roxio's PR.

CLEARWATER, FL: Anti-spam company Sunbelt Software has named Waggener Edstrom its agency of record. Sunbelt develops enterprise system infrastructure software, including security, anti-spam, and system management tools. Wag Ed's Stamford, CT office will handle the account, building visibility for Sunbelt's products and upcoming offerings in security, network management, and messaging.

DENVER: Proxima Technology has selected Ruder Finn to provide corporate and product PR support. Proxima develops software that helps companies get the best value from their IT infrastructure.

SANTA ANA, CA: Enhanced IP service provider Callipso has named MS&L as its agency of record. MS&L will handle corporate positioning and communications surrounding the company's brand, products, and services. The firm will also provide public affairs counsel regarding regulation of the telecommunications industry.

LOS ANGELES: Ruder Finn's Kathy Vincent and Monica Bouldin have both been promoted to SVP. Bouldin will be heading the office's consumer and entertainment practices, while Vincent's role includes managing and directing healthcare and biotechnology operations.

SACRAMENTO, CA: Kahl/Pownall has hired William Kahrl to lead the communications division for the government relations and public affairs firm. Kahrl was previously GM of Burson-Marsteller's Sacramento office. Prior to joining Burson in 1997, Kahrl was the opinion-page editor of The Sacramento Bee.
