AUSTIN, TX: Motorola Semiconductor has issued a request for information (RFI) from PR firms as it considers its communications options for its US PR account.

PR manager Starlyn Aurit confirmed that the division was looking at agencies and that an RFP would soon follow. Motorola's semiconductor division currently works with Hill & Knowlton. Aurit said she expected a decision to be made by the end of the month.

The semiconductor business is the second piece of the company's PR business to come up for review recently. Motorola's US PCS division, which includes mobile phones, is expected to make a decision any day on its agency search. H&K, global lead AOR for the past four years, is also the incumbent agency on that account.

Semiconductor companies are hoping that 2004 will bring about improvement in their fortunes. CNET recently reported that orders for semiconductor equipment continued to be higher than shipments in December, which is giving manufacturers hope that the market for semiconductors will finally turn around this year.
