BIRMINGHAM, MI: Longtime auto PR exec Steve Harris has joined marketing communications and events company Clear!Blue just weeks after retiring from the top communications post at General Motors. He will be chief communications officer, and will serve on the company's board of advisors.

"He is not just a 'car guy,'" said Clear!Blue CEO Todd Smith in a release. "He is much more than that. Steve has experience and interests that transcend the auto industry and touch the entire communications discipline." The release iterated that Harris will work primarily on "non-automotive activities," such as growing the company's client base and enhancing its existing relationships. Since his retirement, Harris has worked as a consultant. He began his career at GM in 1967, and had various communications jobs at American Motors and Chrysler. He became VP of communications at GM in 1999. "I've worked with a number of the people now at Clear!Blue," Harris said in the release, "and the opportunity to be part of this fast-growing, highly creative, and fun-loving group was just too interesting to pass up."
