RALEIGH, NC: Monty Hagler, former president of Raleigh-based firm Capstrat, has decided to call it quits after seven years at the firm. He will move to the Winston-Salem to head up Trone PR, and will serve on the parent company's management committee."This was just a great opportunity for me to grow, to take on some new challenges, learn the ad business, and work with a great firm," Hagler told PRWeek. "It was just a chance for me to take on some new challenges, and Trone has an excellent reputation. I wanted to see if I could use my skills to help them continue to grow." Trone PR, an independent division of Trone, has 17 staffers. The entire company has about 115 employees, including a 25-person office in Atlanta. Uniroyal, Syngenta, and Tekelec are among the firm's multiple regional and national clients. "It's pretty much the gamut of PR and media relations for clients like that," Hagler said. "And then they have some accounts that they share with the management company, so it's part of the integrated, overall strategy. "Do I hope that we're on the radar screen locally? Absolutely. But we're going to be looking at how we can compete on a much larger platform," he added. There was no search firm involved in Hagler's hiring. Capstrat CEO Ken Eudy said that no replacement has been named. "We're going to take the next few weeks to assess our management team, and see whether we need additional support," he said. "Much of his work was business development, and a lot of my job is that also, so I don't see the need to fill the slot right away. "We're sad to see him go, but it's a great opportunity for him. He is well prepared, and we wish him well," Eudy added.
