DETROIT: The Motor City's newest PR firm boasts a local tech pro, a New York agency vet, and one of the more famous unemployed publicists of recent years.
Eaton Baron Public Relations brings together Randy Eaton, a former PR and marketing executive for the now-shuttered Rootlevel, and Jeanne-Marie Baron, former senior managing director at Hill & Knowlton.
The firm's VP is Lisa Rosevear, who gained national attention for WeWantWork.com, a website she cofounded to get jobs for 43 out-of-work, white-collar employees, including herself. Rosevear, a former H&K account supervisor, and a few others hyped the group by handing out fliers and staging protests at places like Rockefeller Center and Grand Central Terminal. This kind of marketing is just what Eaton Baron, which offers a number of other services, advertises as its specialty.
"We've had a lot of success in the past with diffusion marketing, which is a collection of tactics and techniques that are all about spreading messages by word of mouth," Baron said.
Baron reunited with former H&K colleague Rosevear through the WeWantWork buzz and brought her to Detroit to work with the startup firm. So far the four-person firm has national entertainment and food-service clients, as well as a few nonprofits. WeWantWork will operate until the last dozen or so members find jobs, Rosevear said.
