TOY BOX: M32 will work out nicely for exercisers

Polar's m32 heart rate monitor (HRM) is ideal for exercisers with specific goals in mind. Besides monitoring beats per minute, the m32's OwnCal and OwnZone functions keep track of how many calories are burned during workouts, and how much time is spent in the user's target zone. Reports are personalized based on entered user information (weight, sex, and age).

The transmitter band is made from soft fabric, which is more comfortable than the hard plastic transmitters are more commonly attached to. The transmitter is embedded with Polar's WearLink coded technology that prevents interference from other HRMs. This is especially useful for group fitness classes. My only complaint is how difficult it is to unhook the connector latch from the transmitter. I've developed my own method - stepping into the connected band and pulling it up to my chest - that works fine. Still, when spending $150 on a piece of fitness gear, it'd be nice to be able to use it properly and easily. The verdict: Once you get it on, the m32's monitoring functions work magnificently.
