NEW YORK: Interpublic Group has hired Stephen Gatfield, the former COO of advertising powerhouse Leo Burnett Worldwide, to the newly created role of EVP, global operations and innovation. He will report to IPG CEO David Bell.
Gatfield is charged with helping develop a "streamlined" international operating structure, as well as helping IPG companies better deliver service to their clients.
Bell said in the release that Gatfield, while at Leo Burnett, was known for partnering agencies that had not worked together previously, or even developing new joint ventures or operational models. "Each time, Stephen managed to do it seamlessly both from an agency and client perspective," Bell said. "He had tremendous success at Burnett, from both a creative and organizational standpoint."
Gatfield was also responsible for the absorption of DMB&B into Publicis, and helped reorganize the business and financial development of that agency's European operation. He also established partnerships and new business models for Leo Burnett in Asia and South Africa.
