PLANO, TX: IT consulting firm EDS is in the midst of a PR agency search for a firm to handle its corporate and product PR regionally.
While this will be a national account, the firm will focus on regional markets, said Sean Healey, corporate PR director.
The search, which EDS is handling itself and without the assistance of its procurement unit, began a few weeks ago. Healey said he expects that the winning agency will begin account work by early April.
Edelman, the incumbent for about a year on the local PR account, is not participating in the current search.
Edelman was also EDS' corporate AOR for about four years. That relationship ended late last year. EDS began working with Robinson Lerer & Montgomery on corporate communications in November.
EDS has worked with Kekst & Company on financial PR since August 2002, and has used the Dilenschneider Group on special projects and ongoing consultation since early last year. EDS also began working with Michael & Partners last month for media relations support and PR strategy for EDS' business and industry groups.
EDS also recently hired marketing firm Zyman Group to help the company build a new brand. The rebranding is part of an effort to help the company recover from a rather rough 2003, which included layoffs and an SEC investigation. So far, 2004 has been promising for EDS. The company recently announced $100 million in IT outsourcing deals with two American and two European companies. Also in January, EDS acquired the Feld Group, a privately held tech-consulting firm.
