REDWOOD SHORES, CA: Oracle has hired Bob Wynne to take on the new position of VP of strategic media relations. Wynne was previously deputy GM of Edelman's San Francisco office.
Dave Samson, who was VP of international PR and executive communications at Oracle, joined ChevronTexaco as GM of public affairs earlier this year. Jim Finn, VP of worldwide corporate communications, promoted Kristin Hollins to replace Samson. But Finn decided to separate part of Samson's former job into the position that Wynne will handle.
"While everyone on the PR team is involved in media relations, we created this position to get beyond the day-to-day activities of the department to ensure that we continuously drive proactive messages, themes, and media strategies on a 24/7 basis through our global network of PR professionals," said Finn.
Finn cited Wynne's journalism background and experience in agency and corporate environments as a "perfect fit" for Oracle's PR team.
Wynne, who could not be reached for comment, joined Edelman in January 2003. Before that, he worked for Singer Associates, GCI Group, and Bank of America. He was also managing editor of the Alameda Newspaper Group.
Wynne will develop messages and media strategies to take "the Oracle story to top-tier global media" in financial, technology, and government capitals around the world, said Finn, including Washington, DC, Brussels, London, New York, Paris, Tokyo, and San Francisco. Wynne also will work closely with executives and the marketing team to integrate corporate and marketing communications.
