Preparing for its proposed merger with Universal, NBC last week hired a new head of communications with strong government and Hollywood experience
Anna Perez will become EVP of communications at the network effective May 1. She most recently served as communications advisor to National Security Advisor Condoleezza Rice, and as deputy assistant to President Bush.
Perez has also held high-level communications posts at Disney and Hollywood talent agency Creative Artists Agency, and served as press secretary to former first lady Barbara Bush.
Perez will oversee all aspects of communications at NBC, including media relations, internal communications, executive communications, community relations, and corporate philanthropy. If the Universal merger takes place, her role is expected to expand.
NBC, a unit of General Electric, is hoping to receive federal approval this month for that acquisition, which includes Universal?s movie studio, theme parks, and cable assets.
Perez replaces current communications EVP Patricia Steele, who is leaving the company.
