TOYBOX: SoundPix should be seen and heard

Not every tech gadget has to be about the technology. Sometimes it can be about plain, old-fashioned fun. SoundPix Plus 2.0, a program from a company of the same name, is a fun little program that allows you to add sound to a digital image and then send it to others via e-mail.

Installation is simple and straightforward, as my 15-year-old, computer savvy daughter found out. Recording a sound snippet is pretty simple too; you just need a microphone on your PC to do it. Sending a file with audio can be a bit tricky, depending on what the person who receives it is running on his or her machine. I sent one to a friend who reads her e-mail on Outlook and she couldn't hear it. A check of the company's FAQs found a note that people using Windows XP have to open the file using Explorer to hear the sound after downloading a special plug-in. This could come in handy for sending a client event pictures with some running commentary on attendance or results. You can even put together a slide-show. Overall, fun stuff with some business functionality as well. Any suggestions for gadgets we should try? Send them to toybox@prweek.com
