MONTREAL: Cohn & Wolfe Canada has acquired financial communications and IR-focused InvestComm Group, and will fold the company into its Montr?al office. The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed
Former InvestComm Group president Grace Pollock will lead Cohn & Wolfe's national IR practice, which will also be based in Montr?al. As SVP, Pollock will report to Cohn & Wolfe Montr?al EVP and GM Jean-Fran?ois LeBrun. Pollock will be joining the recently hired VP IR Michael Murray, who was formerly VP IR for a Canadian chartered bank.
The InvestComm team will be brought along on a project basis, aid John Crean, managing partner of Cohn & Wolfe Canada.
He said: "As we continue to grow, we hope to bring those folks on a full-time basis."
Cohn & Wolfe Canada acquired PR firm ETC Communications in 2003 and is pursuing an aggressive growth strategy. The company saw IR, with the changes in corporate governance and financial reporting, as an opportunity to expand.
"We had a financial communications practice, but we didn't have a true IR practice. We knew we had to create one and decided to buy one instead of building from the ground up," Crean said.
They're a small firm, but they have a solid roster, Crean said.
He cited the firm's ability to serve a wide breadth of clients from pre-IPO companies to larger companies with more complex issues.
The merged firms' financial communications and IR clients include corporations from the financial services, biotechnology, pharmaceutical, natural resource and other business sectors. Cohn & Wolfe Canada, wholly owned by National PR, is an affiliate of Cohn & Wolfe, which has eight offices around the world.
