AUSTIN, TX: Five agencies will take a second crack at Texas' tourism account. Weber Shandwick won the business in February, but the state cancelled the contract after San Antonio's Interlex protested that it had scored higher. WS will continue working on the account until a new contract is awarded. (See related PRWeek story.)
According to documents obtained through open records requests, both WS and Interlex threw their hats back into the ring, as did Vollmer in Houston, New York's Lou Hammond & Associates, and Global Tourism Strategies in Andover, MA.
New to the fray are Connect-Worldwide, a travel-marketing firm based in Scottsdale, AZ, and San Antonio advertising boutique 7 Records.
State officials refused to consider Fleishman-Hillard's bid, which was time stamped one minute after the deadline. Austin GM Aili Jokela said her team felt their proposal was delivered on time, but she is not inclined to protest the decision.
