NEW YORK: Brigitte Trafford, Dow Jones' top PR person and chief spokesperson, is leaving the company to head up communications at ITV, the largest commercial television network in Great Britain. A seven-year veteran of Dow Jones, Trafford, VP of corporate communications, was responsible for building a global PR team, with staff in Europe and Asia, and for taking a more proactive approach to getting publicity for journalists at the company's publications, especially the Wall Street Journal.
"[The communications team] has gone from being US-only to global and we're doing more product PR than ever before," she said. "We're proactively serving the business units' PR needs."
Dow Jones has not named a successor to Trafford, who is involved in the ongoing search. Her last day is June 4.
The job change marks a move home for Trafford, who is native of England. She has been geographically apart from her husband, a courtroom lawyer in London, for the past two years. The couple has four children.
She enters the network at an important time, as the company reviews its senior management team following the merger of Carlton and Granada, whose union last year formed ITV.
"There are a lot of regulatory issues coming up," she said. "It's a critical time for the broadcasting industry in the UK."
