NEWTOWN SQUARE, PA: Steve Bauer has joined enterprise software firm SAP in a new post as VP of North American communications. Bauer will oversee most PR functions in the region, including corporate communications, media relations, issues management, and employee communications.

Product PR, analyst relations, and public-sector communications will continue to be handled by other VPs.

Bauer will report to SVP of global communications Anne McCarthy. Bauer was placed in his new position at SAP by executive search company Heyman Associates.

His first efforts will be working with SAP America CEO Bill McDermott, positioning him as an industry opinion leader, said Bauer.

Previously, Bauer was the VP of corporate communications at Catena Networks. Bauer also has worked at National Semiconductor, Cisco Systems, and Tellabs.

The new position reflects SAP's "growing enormous need for communications," said McCarthy, particularly in the US, a market that generates $2.5 billion in revenue for SAP.
