NEW YORK: Verizon Communications has appointed Tom Tauke as its EVP of public affairs and communications.
He is taking over for Mary Beth Bardin, who is leaving the company for personal reasons. Tauke joined Verizon in 1991 as VP of government relations.
Tauke will oversee all internal and external communications, reputation and issues management, and philanthropy. Tauke, who will serve on Verizon's corporate-leadership council, will continue to oversee Verizon's public-policy and external-affairs divisions.
"One of my goals is to further establish the reputation of Verizon as the leading telecommunications company in the country," said Tauke. "I also want to focus on issues management and create a process that will allow us to manage and advocate on issues important to Verizon."
PR will play a vital role in many issues facing the telecommunications industry this year, explained Tauke. One of the biggest issues is the deployment of broadband networks to respond to the needs and demands of customers.
