RALEIGH, NC: Open-source software firm Red Hat has selected the Racepoint Group as its first North American agency of record in two years. Red Hat's previous AOR was Brodeur Worldwide.
"We wanted some fresh eyes and ears to craft our messaging and positioning," said Leigh Day, director of corporate communications, who added that the company's story has grown more complex as it has focused on the enterprise market, added new customers, and enhanced its products.
Red Hat is the leading seller of the Linux operating system. Open source has come under fire from companies like SCO Group, which says the software violates copyrights that the company holds. Microsoft also sees open-source software as a threat to its Windows system.
"We really want to focus on Red Hat's leadership position in this market, and the choice its products represent to customers," said Marijean Lauzier, Racepoint's president.
