LOS ANGELES: Healthcare-communications agency FischerHealth, owned by Porter Novelli, has added a new arm to its areas of expertise: the growing field of life sciences.
The decision goes hand in hand with the hiring of two SVPs with previous experience in the arena: Atlanta-based Miriam H. Weber, who joins from BioSector2, a Chandler Chicco company, and New York-based Amy Martini, who was previously at Edelman.
The life-sciences field includes pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and medical-device companies.
While almost every PR agency will offer a number of specialty areas, "Fischer is different because they said, 'We want people with experience in those areas,'" Weber said.
She noted that the practice will likely respond to the growing number of biomedical start-up companies that are asking for both IR and PR support as their products advance through the regulatory-approval process.
The practice already has three clients: Watson pharmaceuticals in Corona, CA; Celgene pharmaceuticals in Warren, NJ; and ZLB Behring, a Swiss company with offices in Glendale, CA.
"This is a good time. The financing windows are open," Weber said. "We wanted to work with the best biotechnology companies... that are changing the way that healthcare is delivered."
