The PRSA has hired Janet Troy as director of PR for the association.
Troy will report to executive director and COO Catherine Bolton and will be responsible for developing and directing overall strategic communication plans for the association and the profession.
PRSA PR manager Cedric Bess assumed PR duties when the previous PR director, Libby Roberge, retired from the profession to have a child in July 2003, Bolton said. Bess, who was manager of chapter relations before assuming responsibility for the association's awards, will continue his role as PR manager and report to Troy.
Bolton said that the board looked at its PR function and decided it needed more people there. In addition to Bolton and Bass, the agency uses freelancers and volunteers and receives help from its advocacy board.
Troy served as VP of marketing and PR at the New York Board of Trade, which she left in 2001 to pursue other projects. She also previously managed accounts for Ruder Finn and Rotman, Howard J. Rubenstein Associates and Daniel J. Edelman PR. Her specialty was in consumer goods publicity and B2B accounts.
"The focus is on helping the profession develop and put forth the advocacy for the profession," Troy said, adding that she will work towards increasing advocacy and developing strategic planning.
